One of the messages in that forum mentioned:
On reboot the 73 and 75 builds write to /etc/passwd which means if you've funplugged your NAS and run SSH then you cannot login as root user.
Can you confirm/deny this fonz?

I haven't tested, but it shouldn't be difficult to restore password-less telnet access before (or after) the upgrade. Still, I'm curious what they're doing to /etc/passwd.
