Cant get DNS-313 set up

the Click n Connect came with the box didn't work

"Clickn Connect cant initialise your device. Please check the cables, hard drive connection and make sure the device is powered on."

I have it powered on and checked everything. It just couldnt find the device.

any suggestions?

I have read http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2380 and tried what they say and did not work

When connecting directly to pc it shows a blue light on the LED.
When connecting through network it constantly shows a green light.
I have tried the latest Click n Connect and dont work
I'm using 1TB disk for the NAS (a WD Drive WD 1002FBYS)

Re: Cant get DNS-313 set up

Set your Network card IP address to anything like 192.168.0.x (for example : 192.168.0.2) ; be sure that any firewall software on your computer is disabled, then try the following:

- Unplug the NAS
- Press the Reset button
- Keep the Reset button pressed, while plugin the power cord, on the NAS ... and wait around 1 minute like this
- then release Reset button, and try Click'n Connect again

Finally, if that really doesn't work, you can try to install everything by yourself, from a Linux Computer: Firmware upgrade failed, green led "death"

Re: Cant get DNS-313 set up

I'v been trying to do what they did at Firmware upgrade failed, green led "death"

but linux is just too complicated for me.

"Take the file "system.tgz" from new firmware and put it in an folder on your linux PC.
Cut the imageheader away.   dd if=system.gz bs=8 skip=13 of=system_noh.gz
Unpack this:     tar -xzf system_noh.gz
You get 3 files, rootfs.tgz, rd.gz and zImage."

where can I find system.tgz and what is "Cut the imageheader away.   dd if=system.gz bs=8 skip=13 of=system_noh.gz" i dont understand this. what's imageheader

sorry for asking so stupid questions and my poor english.

Re: Cant get DNS-313 set up

I think there are 2 problems.

Is it your HD compatible with DNS 313? If yes, is it a new hard disk or a disk you owned before?

Anyway. Try to plug the DNS 313 through USB port e follow this procedure under windows (it's very easy because you can use the standard windows formatting tools):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOzImrtg_YA

Delete all existing partitions, then you have to create a new partition, but you don't have to manage the file system and format the disk if you want the Click n Connect working.

Good Luck

Re: Cant get DNS-313 set up

according to http://global.dlink.com.sg/site_support … 080104.pdf     my WD1002FBYS is not listed but is works fine via USB and it's a new disk.

Since it's a new disk all I did was creat a partition.

"Delete all existing partitions, then you have to create a new partition, but you don't have to manage the file system and format the disk if you want the Click n Connect working."

I didnt manage any file system to the disk the click n connect still not working. (I've also tried mange NTFS file system which works fine via usb but the click n connect still not work)

I ran back to the shop and got a replacement and that did not make any different between the previous one

Re: Cant get DNS-313 set up

just putting my experiances out there.. i plugged my dns313 in to my lan as per the CD (something i dont do often!), only to spend 3 hrs rooting about with it and it not being detected by the click n connect software.. walked away and ignored it for 2 days (left powered on and plugged into lan), then came by today to find it working and setup within 10 mins.. strange piece of gear......
