Streaming performance

Hi

I just ordered a DNS-320, the intended use is to store movies and music. Now I wonder: do I need to buy a gigabit switch or will streaming movies work on my 10/100 switch?

Re: Streaming performance

Do you mean streaming from a network share?

Are we talking SD or HD?

SD over Wi-Fi (54mpbs) works fine for me but when you get on to HD things start to get a little iffy

The DNS-323 is capable of saturating a 54mbps WiFi link, making that more a limitation of the WiFi than the DNS-323

Re: Streaming performance

Well, the DNS-323 is wired to his router.  So the bottleneck for WiFi performance would be on the LAN side of the router.  Can the router transmit and pass the information fast enough over wifi to keep up with the data rates from the 323.

Re: Streaming performance

I just ordered the DNS-320 and just wanted to know what to expect. I have got 3 wired units and one wireless n unit that is going to stream video. HD material is used on the wireless n unit.
