Weiter werden u.a. DDNS, OpenSSL, SMB/CIFS, Rsync, GnuPGP, Duplicity und Cron verwendet.

The DNS-320 as Home Server

These Wiki pages contain a (hopefully!) continuously improving version of a master of advanced science thesis about the possible usage of the low-cost NAS device DNS-320 as a general-purpose server in the home network. That work as well as the present wiki pages are in German.

Abstract

The term “home network” is clarified which leads to general specifications of a home server. Considering data integrity as well as data safety, various threat scenarios are evaluated. This allows to complete the requirements.

The installation is effectuated on a D-Link DNS-320 NAS device as an FFP 0.5 installation with OpenSSH-, OpenVPN-, vsFTPd-, Lighttpd- and BackupPC server. Furthermore, DDNS, OpenSSL, SMB/CIFS, Rsync, GnuPGP, Duplicity and Cron are used among others.
