US Firmware on European machine

Hi, this is my first post in this forum (but I read it for several months). First of all, thanks to all of you, who contribute in this, and particularly to fonz, and his funplug. Secondly, I apologize for the English mistakes I'll probably make.
OK, that's done. Now, the subject of my post:
Currently, I run a 1.04 F/W on my DNS-323 (from the French website), and i wonder if I can run the 1.05 one, from the US support site, without brick anything in my configuration, or if I should wait for D-link to release it in the French support website.

Thanks for your answers, regards.

Re: US Firmware on European machine

Welcome to the Forum...

I have the FW from the us site on my Swedish DNS and it is working as it should be. So there should be no problems for you.

OK, thank you. I will try that, and I'll tell you the result.

mm, it seems that there were a problem. In fact, I didn't had any error message or anything, but the configuration panel tells me that the current firmware is still 1.04, and not 1.05 as expected. Does someone have an idea?

Re: US Firmware on European machine

I tried again, and nothing new happened. Is it possible that the update ran well, without changing the version number in the interface? Does exists another way to know which version I run?

One tip... Clean the cache in IE or FireFox, then try to access your NAS.  It could be old pages showing up in your browser....

I just tried, and it's not the cache. Thank you for the idea. i wonder if the cause could be a process running on the NAS (i don't think so, but ...). I make an attempt without any program running.

Re: US Firmware on European machine

Oh. I have very interesting news. i was first unable to restart the nas without funplug services. Even with

Code:

chmod -x /mnt/HD_a2/fun_plug

, when i restarted the nas, i had all the services (like telnet, lighttp, ...) running. I had to delete ffp/ directory and restart to disable them. And the other interesting thing: after that I can see in the configuration panel that my firmware is 1.05.

I don't really understand this, but it seems that at least one application causes the trouble. but I'm not able to say what. This is the list of executables scripts in my /ffp/start folder:
cleanboot.sh, editcron.sh, fanctrl.sh, lighttpd.sh, optware.sh, passwd.sh, rcS.sh, rsyncd.sh, shells.sh, telnetd.sh, transmission.sh

Re: US Firmware on European machine

I reinstalled funplug, everything seems to be OK. I still can't understand why I had this problem, i hope it's over. Let's wait and see.
