samba 3.20?

hi guys,

i just got a DNS-323 and have optware + fun_plug running on it with all sorts of crap on it (AFPD, transmission + clutch, lighttpd, etc.) it's working great.

however, i'm wondering how one can somehow override the default samba install with the most recent release of samba 3.20?  i saw that it was in the optware repositories for the dns323, but i wasn't entirely sure on how to both disable the default samba install and enable the optware samba 3.20 package.

hopefully someone has samba 3.20 running on their dns-323 right now.. yikes

Re: samba 3.20?

did you see the BetterSamba page on the wiki (under howto) site?  It may get you started...

Re: samba 3.20?

i did, and it didn't really help in terms of running a different version of samba on the dns323.

however, there is a guide on the NSLU2-linux website that pretty much lays everything out for you (and it works perfectly!)

http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Optware/Samba

HOWEVER!  i ended up bricking my unit just two days after i got it off of ebay because i wanted to have my samba 3.20 settings persist and have it be editable easily from the web interface (this is where i went wrong: i followed the wiki's directions and edited the CfgBackup file with CF/LF characters.  now i'm fucked.)

Do you have no access to the unit? no telnet, no ssh, no ftp?  Have you tried hard reset (pinhole at back on dns323, not sure whether that will do anything at all) Maybe somebody else can help, try a new post asking for help with a bricked unit (if you haven't already). Ah, I just seen you are aware of another thread about this! hope you recover your 323.
