Hi!

I would like to add a 500gb disc to my my ch3snas, which I've used with ony one harddrive (750gb JBOD) so far. However, I don't want it to accidentally delete the wrong drive, so I guess it would be best to eject the drive in use, add the new drive, reformate it and put the first drive back into the NAS. Any other methods you guys would recommend?

That works well on the DNS-323, I see no reason why it shouldn't on the CH3SNAS.

By the way - on these devices (at least on the DNS-323) JBOD requires two drives, so what you have would be a standard volume.

Thx! Just reformated the drive and unfortunately it named it after the first drive. So is there any way manually rename it to Volume2?

Anyway, tried to open the Configuration Settings and all I got was gibberish... anybody knows a good OSX Editor to get the job done?

Dont't try to manually rename Volume_1 to Volume_2 - just install both disks, with the one you want as Volume_2 in the left bay and let the unit do what it needs to..

If you edit that configuration file and you slip you'll be in major grief.

Tried to do it like you said, but when inserting the new drive in the left bay it will still be named Volume_2 - guess I have to insert the other disk as well, but I don't want this one to get erased by accident. Or is this method absolutely safe?

How did you try, when you clearly state that you only had 1 disk in the unit? Since both drive are formatted already, you will not need to do it again. Insert both drives in the unit, with the drive you want to be Volume_1 in the right bay, and the one you want to be Volume_2 in the left bay and start up the unit. What happens?

If the drives have the wrong names at this point, they can be switched manually via telnet, but DO NOT attempt to do it with the configuration backup file.
