I searched but didn't find an answer. Is there a way to view pictures or other files externally besides ftp, say with lighttpd?
Also, is there a way to stream mp3's externally to a laptop?

Yes if you have lighttpd you can use http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t1132-Ligh … eamer.html for streaming music
and for pictures http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t1827-ligh … S-323.html they are both easy to use and lightweight but you can use other aswell if you install mysql.
