Hello All,
I have been using my DNS-323 for about a year with two 300GB drives configured as RAID1. I need a lot of drive space, and there are other posts that have mentioned people successfully using 1TB drives in a RAID1 config, so I decided to buy two 1TB WD GreenPower drives.
I backed up all of my data to a separate drive, upgraded the firmware to 1.5 (this worked fine with existing drives), installed the new drives and set the RAID1 partition size to 998GB (the max it would allow).
However, when I try to access Volume_1 through Windows XP network neighborhood, windows locks up (I have to reboot my machine). I have two windows machines and a mac, and all three had issues accessing the volume.
If I reformatted the drives as JBOD, and it worked fine. I also was able to insert one of the 1TB disks with one of the old disks and it mirrored the old RAID partition and created a second JBOD partition. This is nice, but i would much rather just have one big RAID1 vol.
Any idea what is going on here and how I can get my RAID1 config going?
Thanks, dJ

Don't know why you are having problems, but I would suggest attaching both disks to your desktop and using fdisk from a boot disk or disk management tool in XP and delete the partitions (obviously the usual cautions apply (take a backup and make sure you delete the partitions on the right drives :-) ). Don't recreate a new partition/format the drives. Just re-insert the two drives into the dns323, fire it up and follow the formatting wizard from there. You could also factory reset the dns323 via the web interface or via the back of the unit. You mention that it is not just your xp machine that is having problems. Can it be related to your network? You could try directly connecting the unit to one of the computers (bypass switch/router) and see if that helps as well as changing cables.

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually just got it to work, but it's pretty strange.
I formatted the first drive as a single disk with one partition. After it was ready I copied some data on (one directory with about 500M of data). Then I added the second drive to the enclosure. I started it up, logged in and the wizard asked if I wanted to format the new drive as RAID1. It ran and everything is fine now.
I had actually done this same process before, but without any data on the first drive. I had a strange feeling this would work, but no real reason to explain why. Good enough for me though.
