blinking hard drive light, won't recognize new drive

I installed a Hitachi Deskstar 500GB drive about a week ago without problems (upgraded firmware to 1.06). I have decided to add a second drive (identical).

When I inserted the new drive, the drive light on the box blinks continuously, and the configuration utility does not recognize the drive (the original drive is still recognized). When I go into the system configuration, I don't see any option for formatting the new drive.

I have tried swapping the position of the hard drives, doing a hard-reset and a software reset. Do I need to format the drive in a computer first? Or is there a way to force the 323 to format it?

I know this may already be posted somewhere, but I have searched and cannot find it. Please help by pointing to the applicable post.

Thank you for any help.

Shane

Re: blinking hard drive light, won't recognize new drive

Certain drives have a delayed spin up.  Try powering on your device, then log into the web UI.  Do a soft reset from the web UI.  Then check and see if your drive is detected.

That didn't work. I tried putting the drive in my computer, and the computer did not recognize it as a drive. I think there may be a problem with the drive, or perhaps the D-Link box damaged it somehow (pure uneducated speculation).
