DNS-323 formatted the wrong drive. How to recover pictures from ext2?

Got a new and shiny 1.5TB seagate..
Restarted DNS-323, put the drive on the left and started up.. Went do the admin page, and it said it's going to format the Seagate drive.. Well, it formatted the Samsung one... I do have a backup of the Samsung to a certain extend, but I will still loose data..
I'm quite pissed because this DNS-323 crap said it was formatting the seagate (It gave a seagate serial / drive specs)..

Anyway, I've hooked up the Samsung to my desktop and am under linux and the drive is clean... Does anyone has any suggestions how to at least recover recent family pictures from the drive? I haven't run rsync for a month or so, so I'm loosing those unsynced pictures..damn..

this is a known problem, supposed to be fixed in fw1.08 (when it is released).  Search this forum on this issue and you will find a few recovery tools that people have tried, but it tends to be without (much) success, sorry
