How do I add a second disk?

I have had my DNS-323 for a while now and its time to add another disk, can I add the disk without risking the first one to be reformatted.

Re: How do I add a second disk?

Are you planning on changing from Standard to Raid with the second disk or just two seperate volumes? If you leave it at standard (which is only allowed with 1 disk) then you will be fine and a new Volume_2 will be created. However if you plan to Raid 0 or Raid 1 the device you will be required to format to the new partition system.

Re: How do I add a second disk?

I want to have two separate disks.
I chickened out and copied our document folder (20 of 400MB) and removed my first disk from the DNS-323 then formatted the new one before putting the old one back.

Better safe than sorry

Re: How do I add a second disk?

What if it starts as Standard (only option with 1 disk), and I add a 2nd disk for (Raid 1?) mirroring?  Will it allow me to mirror the first disk or will I have to loose everything and start over formatting both drives for mirroring?

Re: How do I add a second disk?

You will have to format both disks in order to setup the Raid 1 Partition for mirroring. You would need to backup your data somewhere else and then setup raid.
