Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

I bought a DNS-323 recently. I have one desktop and one laptop running windows xp sp2 professional both. I have firmware 1.04beta installed on DNS-323. When i restart the DNS or when i start it i can't most times connect to the shared portions. Same problem with older firmwares. Shipping firmware and 1.03 for sure. Tested also with no antivirus on.The web page works just fine. Ping works ok too. Also when changing the shared permissions as told from someone the problems is solved. I thing but not full tested that after some time (1 hour or more) the device works fine anyway. I read somewhere that this is a SAMBA problem and probably it can be fixed by restarting the samba server (because of a negotiation problem). My first question is how can i do that. What code i must write. The second and most important problem of mine is how can the DNS brick. I read it before and i am very scared of that. What causes the device to brick and what caution i must take.
Thanks.

Hi,
extensively discussed AND in the Wiki.
Please see this most recent post:
http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=5460
Look at the forth post down....
You need to install fun-plug to get a telnet session - you can then telnet in and issue "smb restart" command
Alternatives are also available - see the post and Wiki
As for bricking the unit - some info in the unit - depends on how 'brave' you are - not many cases here that I can recall FWIW.
Maybe one of the others know?
[edit : 1.04 is still VERY beta AFAIK - many reports of file corruption at the least - just so you know. 1.03 still main stream]
[Edit2:- One of the mods wanna write/create a sticky for this? Seems to be getting asked almost daily now! PLEASE Dlink fix it in the new Firmware ]
