Problems with restart DNS-323 after shutdown

Recently I bougth the DNS-323 and I tried to connect 3 PCs through a modem/router SMC :
   Here is my configuration :
    1 - Modem/routeur SMC 7904WBRA :                          IP adress 192.168.2.1
2 - Server DLINK DNS 323 connected by RJ45 son modem SMC                 IP adress 192.168.2.150
with 2 hard disk Seagate Barracuda 250 Go
3 - PC computer COMPAQ Pentium P4 with Windows XP Wlan WiFi (Wireless 802.11a/b/g)                 IP adress 192.168.2.104
4 - PC computer Acer Aspire T180 Dual Core T2080 with Windows Vista Home Premium, Wan WiFi(Wireless 802.11a/b/g)
                                                                                                                                                                 IP adress 192.168.2.102
5 - PC computer Acer Aspire 9413 Core Duo with Windows Vista liaison WiFi             IP adress 192.168.2.103

In order to connect the computers I used the process advised by D-Link technical hot line in France
Using Explorer Windows on the 3 computers ( 2 in Vista and 1 in XP)
    1 - Connect a network drive
    2 - Choice letter P:
3 - Mark case "connect again automaticly when opening Windows"
    4 - Browse choice DNS-323
    5 – Valid

When the conect o, the 3 computer is OK, I can access to the files of the server. When I shutdown the computers and restart ther is no problem.

But I meet problems when I shutdown the server DNS-323 and after I restart it. It's impossible to connect again all the 3 computers

I'm obliged to destroyed all  connections on each computer, to run "Wizard" in configuration tool of the DNS-323 and after connect again the 3 computers.

    It's a very heavy process;

Here is somebody which had meet these problems or somebody which has an idea of this problem.

                                   Thanks for the help

Yes it is the same for me too, the DNS will simply not reconnect itself without me having to run through the wizard.
Lets hope this is fixed with FW 1.04.

Other people report it is not happening with their DNS. I don't understand it really, my PC is a pretty standard Windows XP Pro SP2 box, maybe it's not happening with Linux or Macs, who knows?

I run a "pure Windows" environment and don't get that problem.

Re: Problems with restart DNS-323 after shutdown

Hi all,
assuming windows XP - this is a documented problem and in the Wiki.
http://dns323.kood.org/information:known_issues   - see the heading "Share not accessible after reboot"
also a couple of other posts:
http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t724-setti … ption.html
http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t680-Share … IRMED.html

You have 2 choices - :
1) open the configuration panel and "touch" one of the settings there and save.
or
2) add the fun_plug to the device, and after DNS-323 reboot - telnet into the device and issue "smb restart"    ....

I also gather that Vista has some specific problems see http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPo … p;SiteID=1

I am NOT aware that this has been fixed in some of the Beta 1.04 releases - BUT not sure big_smile

Good luck
HTH  big_smile

PS Dunno why Fordem is spared this issue - just luck?

Re: Problems with restart DNS-323 after shutdown

My DNS-323 is running fine since more than 6 months now, but I experience the same problems as jpdupuy and others.
The same problem also occured under Win2K for me.

I used to apply Tack's option #1 for a while.

I have not done a shutdown for the last few months and my DNS is fed from a UPS with an autonomy of at least 24 hours.
I wouldn't mind using the configuration panel again after e.g. a power failure, but this might happen also when my spouse is using the DNS when I'm not at home and she is afraid of messing things up and that why I chose this solution.
At least until the problem is cured in another way.

Of course, it is a more expensive solution.

Bye,  ON6LW
