iTunes, DNS-323, and MP4 Videos?

Hello,

I did a search for MPEG4 and M4V and didn't see anything about this so was hoping someone could help me.  smile

I just installed iTunes and I have my library on the DNS-323 with iTunes server enabled.  iTunes went and found the music files and imported them.  However, I am not seeing the MPEG4 (M4V) files.  These are located in the same directories as the artist.  When I have these on my local disk it finds them and I see them.

Is there something I need to do with iTunes to get it to import all types of files or is this a problem with the DNS-323?

Thanks!

i think that is a limitation of the newer version of iTunes (read that somewhere on here before)

Re: iTunes, DNS-323, and MP4 Videos?

Do you mean the newer version of iTunes doesn't see the files correctly on a DNS-323?  I know that iTunes needs to be compatible with these MP4 videos since I purchased them through the online iTunes Store.  Maybe it's a DNS-323 incompatibility/limitation?

from my understanding, its the iTunes application that will not provide you the file formats your requesting. i was told (somewhere in here) that the older version of iTunes has that ability (or most of it)

Re: iTunes, DNS-323, and MP4 Videos?

You can only have music files in the itunes share served up by the DNS 323 iTunes client.

However you can have a library (local to your clinet) consisting of media files stored on the DNS 323.

I had my itunes library on my Mac, and did the following:
- Changed iTunes music folder location in Preferences/Advanced/iTunes Music folder location to
Volume1_/iTunes or similar
- Ran Advanced/Consolidate Library which actually copied all my media to the location given above.

If you use windows, all is fine as the SMB share comes up automaticaly, however on the mac you need to manually mount the drive first and then start iTunes. Otherwise the files don't show up.

All works really easy.
