Hi All,
I`ve chrooted my nas, installed hellanzb, lighttpd, zussaweb, prenominalNZB. All is working like a dream.
Obviously i`m using the disk constantly by these programs and they keep the disk spinning all the time. I cant get Hellanzb to cache more in memory as i only have 5mb to work with after that it writes to the disk.
Now, i would like the disk to sleep as i dont want to kill my drive due to constant usage 24x7. So i thought about setting up a 4gb fast flash drive, loading etch on there and running all programs from that drive. Has any one attempted this or has experience with using a flash drive with out the drives running.

I have mldonkey running entirely on a 4GB flash drive. Disk only spins up when the download is finished and the file is transferren to disks. Very neat. Runs 24/7 very cool ehem cold as well
Noticed thou that the transfer from USB disk to disk is prety slow, especialy when there are a couple other downloads running. My USB disk is a dog standard play.com one, you may get better performance with a faster one. I'm not sure the USB disk is the week link though.

I run hellanzb via chrooted etch from usb flash drive without spinning harddisks. It took some time to find out how to mount --bind certain daemon folders to prevent the harddisk from spinning continiously. Hellanzb reads the folders .hellanzb/nzb/daemon.queue and .hellanzb/nzb/daemon.postponed every 30 seconds, so keep these on the usb flash drive. The other daemon folders and the output folder (done) can be located on the harddisk (because you need some diskspace to par and unrar your 4,5 GB movies . . .).
