Purging after deleting files?

Noticed that after I connect to the 323 from an XP machine that after deleting a 20 MegaByte file, it's not in the Windows Recycle Bin. Is there a recyble bin that needs to be purged on the DNS 323?

Re: Purging after deleting files?

Normally files deleted from a network share are not sent to any recycle bin. (I'm talking about deleting the files from Windows - not sure what MacOS or Linux would do in this situation.)

The Samba software that is used to share folders from the DNS323 does not "recycle"/backup deleted files by default, and I'm pretty sure that DLink haven't configured it to do that.

So I think the answer to your question is "No."

Are you just worried about freeing the disk space, or do you need to securely remove sensitive data?

Or need to delete incriminating evidence of something ?? ;-)

Re: Purging after deleting files?

Although 1 day it could be incriminating stuff smile but for now, it's making sure disk space is not wasted for a recycle bin. Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
