Hi, I was wondering what can be done so that i don't have to add :8080 at the end of my
http://<DNS-323 IP address> in order to view the contents of the webserver?

your router should have a virtual server or port forwarding setting. set it to forward incoming port 80 requests to be re-routed to port 8080 on the DNS-323 IP address.
that will do it. but realize that when you do this, it's imposible to access the DNS-323's configuration menu unless you disable the routing or you create a second re-route, i.e. rout public port 82 to private port 80 on the DNS-323.
Also get yourself a dyndns.org domain rather then using IP addresses. they alias is free. i.e. http://esebag.dyndns.org will take you right to the DNS-323.

On a similar note, I have a couple of domains hosted elsewhere. Is it possible to have say http://mydomain/dns redirected to the dns web server ip address?

Theoretically yes, however it may depend on your web hosting service.
The "mechanism" that translates a URL to an ip address is known as DNS or Domain Name Services - a DNS server somewhere, most likely belonging to your web hosting provider, holds the information for your URL, and that is where the change has to be made.
Now - the ip address that you would use to access your DNS-323 probably "belongs" to your ISP and as such your web hosting provider does not have the authoritative control to point a URL to it - unless of course your web host is your ISP. If you registered the domain through the web hosting provider, they may have retained administrative & technical control and may be reluctant to transfer this to you, since it means that they are probably about to lose your business.
If you do have control of the domain, you can have the URL point to a DNS server anywhere (your own or your ISP's, provided that they agree) and that DNS server point to your ip address.
A couple of points to consider -
What sort of internet connection do you have - if it's residential, it will probably have a dynamically assigned ip address, and your terms of service may specifically exclude web hosting, you really should have a static ip address and this, along with ISP's permission to run your own web server.
What type of web sites are you hosting, does the DNS-323 have the processing power and memory to handle the expected load, remember this unit was not built to be a web server.
This last may not be an issue for you, but it is for me, availability - I live in an area which has notoriously unstable power, as an example, yesterday there were no less than six outages, nothing lasting more than 10-15 mins - that was an unusually bad day, but as a rule we have one or more short outages every week - your web hosting provider most likely has the necessary power infrastructure in place to guarantee availability.

I should have been more specific... I want to keep my current host and only redirect one page to the dns-323. I didn't want to change the DNS info., so therefore, I imaging I could write a redirecting page (HTML or PHP) to redirect http:// domainname . com/nas to the dns-323 web server ip address (i.e. my ISP's IP). Would there be any problems doing this? I plan on password protecting the dns-323 web server to cut down on unneeded traffic and riffraff. I already have web access to the dns-323 via lighttpd. I just don't want to have to type or remember the IP address:port number and thought I would use one of my domains since I can easily remember that. Thanks,

All you would need to do is edit whatever link points to the particular page so that it points to the new page, and it should work, however, the points mentioned above will still remain areas for concern, whether it is a single page or an entire site
