Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

How to better tell whether disk has been spun down

Hello. I have a DNS-323 with firmware 1.4. It used to spin down OK because I often experience a perceivable delay when first accessing the network drive in a while.

Now I seemingly don't notice that delay anymore. I'd like to know whether there is a better way to see if spin down still works properly. I guess I can listen for the HDD activity, but the enclosure is not located in an easily accessible location right now.

Here's my facts:

1. Firmware 1.4.
2. For now only one 80GB SATA HDD is in it.
3. I don't have fun_plug or any other custom software.
4. I don't use a print server and never attempted to set one up.
5. I have cleared the print queue several times.
6. UPnP, iTunes, and DHCP servers are disabled. FTP server is enabled but no one is using FTP.
7. I have the default 5-min spin down time.

Thanks a lot.

Re: How to better tell whether disk has been spun down

Hmm. Seem to have answered my own question. The big (square) LED on the front panel (the one surrounding the power button) seems to be brightly lit when the disk is active and dimly lit when the disk is "hibernating."
