Hi all,
I've just been doing some speed tests after installing a GS105 Gig Switch, by simply timing a 1.5GB file transfer between my PC and DNS 323, both
connected to the Gig Switch.
The Gig Switch lit up with 1Gig port lights ok, so I didn't alter any settings on anything, and just set about doing the test.
Quite often the transfer one way or another would freeze - the copy icons floating across the copy window would freeze and there would be no timer
reduction from whatever "seconds to go" it would freeze on. Any attempt to do anything just left me with a "DNS 323 Not Responding" error, and a reboot
of both devices was needed to set them up to go again.
I obviously wondered what the hell was going on, and thought I may have been delivered a dodgy switch, but I just thought it was worth looking into
the DNS settings pages to see if anything obvious jumped out.
On the Setup/LAN page, I noticed the "Link Speed" set to "Auto", and thought it was worth forcing it to 1000 and applied that setting.
Well the last load of speed tests have gone without a problem, and I just wondered if this was a common problem when putting the DNS 323 onto a
Gig Switch, and I can now forget about the issue as the "Link Speed" setting change to 1000 is what to do to get around it for good.
Anyone any ideas ?
Cheers,
Highlander

I've had no problems with GbE - my DNS-323 is configured for auto, as is my switch - Netgear FS728TS (24x10/100 + 4x10/100/1000) - and the other GbE hosts, a small IBM xSeries server, and a couple of Dell client systems.

if you have a large library of media that is set for iTunes / UPnP, this will cause your DNS to 'freeze'. this may not be the case for you, but it is for me when a HUGE library of media. i normally have to wait till the indexing is done for me to use the 323 again
