DSM-G600, DNS-3xx and NSA-220 Hack Forum

Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

smbmnt failed : 255

Hi all.

As a dsmg600 and linux newbie I tried to install funplug and ...

First, I tried through Windows XP and FTP (my driver is already formated and full of data).
So, I "put" the fun_plug file to the "root" directory on the drive (with the dmesg > /mnt/HD_a2/dmesg.out script on).
Of course, I can't chmod with ftp ...
So, reboot and ... nothing.

So, I install an Suse 10.1 and try to direct log to my driver with the command :
"mount -t smbfs -o username=admin //<my drive IP here>/HDD_a /mnt/" and get from the system (after the password) :
"mount error : Invalid argument
Please refer to ....
smbmnt failed : 255"

So now, I'm a bit lost ... smile

Thank for your help.
Cyrille

P.S. : I can't use de web interface with firefox and konqueror (there is no link to the "bouton")
It works only with IE ... but with Linux ... !! smile
Is there a way to use the dsm web interface with another browser than IE ?

The latest US firmware has fixed web pages, so they work with firefox and all most common non internet explorer based browsers. Alternatively you my use IE with wine (google to get more info).

You still can remove disk out of DSM-G600 and connect it to your real pc, install proper fun_plug and then put the drive back to your DSM-G600.

But why didn't you use ftp with your suse ?
and as you are firefox user you can use the fireftp extension.

Re: smbmnt failed : 255

The problem I've found with ftp is that when I issue the "site chmod 755 fun_plug" command, I get "permission denied" or something similar. Like sala says, you can remove the hard disk from the DSM-G600 and connect it to a spare IDE connector on a Linux PC, mount it and sort it out that way. That's how I made fun_plug executable.

Of course, with the custom firmware, you can now log in via telnet and sort it out that way.

Re: smbmnt failed : 255

Make sure you have smbmount (the client package installed).  Check if you have /sbin/smbmount.  When I didn't have the smb client installed properly on one of my linux boxes I got weird errors when trying to mount to a samba share with "mount -t smbfs...".  On one of the systems, I had to use "mount -t cifs...".

Re: smbmnt failed : 255

Ok.
I put the fun_plug file to the root of HD_a2 directory (with the dmesg > /mnt/HD_a2/dmesg.out script in).
The file is executable.
So, I reboot and ... still nothing.

I have a question about the "backgroung info" stuff : do I have to add all those informations or are they already in ?
If, I have to write then, I've no idea how I can do that because I can't reach the appropriate files ...

Maybe I must use the custom firmware do to so, but if I use this firmware, can I be sure my data (my disk is full of data) won't be lost ?

Thank for your help ... smile

Re: smbmnt failed : 255

Hi all,

I'm newbie in the forum and also in linux and, although I do not understand more than a half of the stuff (it could be for my low level of English or the lack of knowledge on linux), it seems to me an excellent forum.

I also had some problems to run fun_plug at the beginning. Because I am a Windows user, I tried to save the 'fun_plug' file with 'Notepad'. And this was my error, because the file need to be in linux format (LF instead CR+LF). I saved it with PN (Programmers Notepad) without CR (only LF) and everything began to work (changing the file permissions with 'fireftp' of course).

It could be your problem.
