DNS-323 does not stay asleep

Hey everyone - was hoping someone could help. My DNS-323 does not stay asleep. I have 2 WD 500GB AAKS drive installed, in JBOD running firmware 1.03 (just saw 1.04 was released) I've set the spin-down time to be 5 minutes, and it will spin down, but shortly there after they just spin up again. At first, I thought it was something on my network trying to access the drives, so I just un-plugged everything (except for power :-)... ) and it still did the same thing, so it couldn't be network related.

Any ideas?

Much appreciated.

Re: DNS-323 does not stay asleep

Read the wiki re: the printer queue, also the upnp server that comes with the dns-323 usually spins the disks up again to check for new files...

Re: DNS-323 does not stay asleep

Also try disabling FTP, UpNP & iTunes server. These may cause the disks to not sleep properly. Also, when the unit is connected to the network, even opening up an iTunes client on a computer will most often wake the unit up.

Re: DNS-323 does not stay asleep

FYI, my unit sleeps properly with firmware 1.4 and FTP server enabled. All other servers are disabled.

Re: DNS-323 does not stay asleep

Hey Everyone - Thanks for all the replies! When I got home from work, I tried deleting the print queue (the 1.03 way), and it didn't work. So I went ahead and upgraded to 1.04. Everything went smoothly, I cleared the print queue and I set the sleep time to 5 minutes. The drives have now been asleep for 30 minutes! They never would sleep more than a minute before so I think we're good.

Right now, I have everything disabled (except the printer), so I'll probably enable FTP, see if it still works fine and then enable uPNP. Very happy though - considering I'm 1-day outside of warranty :-)

Thanks again for the all the help!
