my itunes server doesn't work ... i thought its as simple as enable, set folder to where all ur mp3s are, run itunes on a pc on same network and voila shld show up, but i get nothing.
Adding a folder from the itunes manually works fine though
Just to add that i'm running:
iTunes v7
Windows Vista with no firewall turned on
DNS-323 v1.04 with itunes enabled
my home network is such, both PC/laptop running vista home premium/business
cable modem - netgear router - home plug -
- home plug - dlink router (no WAN) - desktop pc + dlink dns-323 + home laptop (itunes)
* all firewall in LAN has been turned off on the PC/laptop
* UPnP AV has been disabled on dns-323
* iTunes enabled on dns-323
The other thing i tried was having the desktop pc running itunes and i clicked to share the libraries there, my laptop also cannot pick that up and vice versa.
i ran tcpview to ensure the 3689 port is listening for itunes on the laptop, is there a setup problem with my network or is it just a vista problem? or is it that home premium's media server is conflicting with itunes server ports?
any help? thanks

Did you remember to click on Refresh button on Advanced>iTunes SERVER screen and set Refresh interval to some value other than "none"?

yes i have it set it to refresh every 5 mins.
the folder i've made sure to have very short-named normal looking mp3s in it to test things out to no avail.
i also found out that the easysearch utility doesn't seem to find my DNS-323, though i can ping and map the drive fine in windows vista.
i'm using dlink di 524 router and netgear wgr614
is there some igmp/multicast setting to enable/disable? i can't find these settings in the router's admin pages though.

remember that it can take hours to build up an initial database.
Interesting as I'm having problems with the iTunes server. You say initial database - does that mean it should be quicker once built the first time?
My iTunes server refresh takes nearly 1hr already and I'm nowhere near finished getting my music onto it. Thinking of installing Firefly but not sure if this will help..
