Window permission issue

Hello,
I am new in the dns323/linux word....
I successfully install fun_plug and other apps. smile
When I use Telnet I can use the copy/moving/delete command flawlessly.
Is only when I use XP/Vista I have problem to delete or move a file or directory. A got a message like: permission deny. I can read any file create directories, and so on but not deleting anything.
I checked the permission with telnet or window to a specified directory or file, and I have full access.
Any suggestion? Beside get raid of microsoft OS wink

Re: Window permission issue

Have you checked your mounts in the telnet shell to make sure they are not read only?  Also, if you modified or mounted drives manually to new directories while telnetted in, I have noticed that it defaults to a 755 permission on the mount directory and has to be changed or I get the same problem you are describing on any file on the drive, regard.

Make sure you have 777 permissions on all areas you want to have access with windows.

Re: Window permission issue

Im also a total newbie on this.. i have made my folders and files under directory "/FTP" to "chmod 0775" except "FTP/Upload" which is "chmod 0777" so the FTP users can upload to a specified folder.

But it drives me nuts that i have to chmod back and forward using telnet every time i want to transfer files to the other folders in windows. Is there any was to give the windows/samba transfers permission but still keep them read-only for FTP access ?

Re: Window permission issue

Try adding your windows username to the group, or better yet, give ownership of the directories and files to your windows username.  This way, you as owner will have rwx and the ftp clients will still only have the "other" rights.
