Hi all,
I've been experimenting with my DNS-323 since yesterday and I've encountered a nasty problem: when I copy a large amount of data (e.g. a number of .avi's of about 300MB each) after a couple of minutes the copy fails because the share disappears. After a brief time the share is available again. The same happened when I'm viewing video: after a few minutes the player stops playback and reports that the file is no longer available.
Any clues on what's happening here? Could it be the powersave that kicks in (while it should not)?
Configuration: DNS-323 with 2 WD 500gb SATAII's in RAID-1, wired to a Siemens Gigaset SX552, laptop XP home wireless connected, desktop XP Home wired. Problem occurs on both machines.
Regards,
Rudy

You can eliminate the powersave as a suspect by disabling it - but - my prime suspect would be the network itself.
Start by setting a static address on the DNS-323 and then connect directly to the desktop using the desktop's existing ethernet cable - this will eliminate the Siemens, etc. from the picture - if the problem continues replace the ethernet cable, if it disappears, reintroduces the other pieces one at a time.
The tcp/ip protocols are designed to be self healing and transmission errors are automatically detected and a retransmission occurs - the problem with this is that with a flawed link, as transmission rates increase, so do the errors and the retransmissions. this of course pushes the transmission rates higher, the errors increase and retransmissions increase until the link collapses.
