office server

Hey guys,

A friend advised me to register to this forum, so here goes my first post smile

I'm trying to setup the DNS-323 as an office server. We have several employees who all should have their own map. This works so far, I've created a dir for each user which I can map from each computer. Now here's the tricky part; I also want to have several "general" dirs who everyone can access, but they should be accesable through the same mapping.

And to top that, within the "shared" maps I'd like to password-protect some (maybe through htaccess, or won't that work?)

Please advice, thanks! smile

Re: office server

Nobody knows a solution to this?

Maybe the only solution is mapping 2 different drives?

Re: office server

Interesting,
I am also using the NAS for the office, but I am using two maps (a general access and a personal access).
Maybe a symbolic link would work for you.
Try putting a symbolic link in each of your personal maps that points to your general shared.

For the password protected files within the shared folder:
If the files you want to protect are Microsoft office files, then you have the possibility to put a password within the documents.
For the other files, maybe you can play with the permissions (give only the user read/write)

note that you need telnet access to do most of what I mentioned.
