Well i'm not sure but there is twho kind of usb port master ou slave ... if i'm right the dsm's usb ports are master and can't be used as usb mass storage.

But why do you need this function ?

Re: DSM-G600 as a USB Mass storage device

I have a DVD player for TV that supports reading from USB mass storage. Thanks, I'll look for special  ethernet to USB mass storage device.

Re: DSM-G600 as a USB Mass storage device

Nope, there are no such devices, just because it is not clear what exactly to make accessible as mass storage from an ethernet.

Just imagine an ethernet patch cord connected to some ethernet switch and LAN... what then? What exactly should be converted into mass storage?

That's why there are no such devices.

Before just replacing your player by some other with upnp support, may be you should search for upnp-to-mass-storage convertor... But I think this is too specific piece also.

Re: DSM-G600 as a USB Mass storage device

I have seen products which are advertised as usb host to usb host ( intended for transferring files between computers ). I had seen some ads around the time when vista was released ( to help people to "migrate" to their new pc )....

i have not used them, and am also not sure if they work without drivers etc. May be those would help?

something like : http://www.usbgear.com/link/index.html

regards,

Re: DSM-G600 as a USB Mass storage device

these usb-to-usb devices requires specific software on each PC... in case of a player and a router they are useless

Re: DSM-G600 as a USB Mass storage device

Why not just get an external USB drive and hook to your player?  When you wan it to be on the network, just plug it into the back of the DSM, and when you want to use it on the TV, plug it into the TV.
