Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Strange problem: Volume_1 becomes Volume_1-1 ?!?

Set up my DNS-323 yesterday with 2 Seagate Barracuda 500GB drives, formatted to Raid 0. Got several packages installed, including ffp and Debian etch (thanks to all contributors). Planning to get slapd and possibly netatalk working. (I have a mixed Mac / PC home network. The 323 is my first foray into Linux.)

Having fun, but don't want to make maintaining this box a part time job indefinitely wink.

Shortly after getting the basic telnet package working and mounting the drive from both OS X 10.4 and Windows XP, Volume_1 became Volume_1-1. Since I didn't do anything directly to cause this, it has me worried. Note: I have also rebooted with fonz' fun_plug .04 and chrooted into the aforementioned etch install and run apt-get to download slapd and update things so I've done some fiddling smile).

A couple reboots ago, I edited /etc/samba/smb.cnf, changing Volume_1-1 to Volume_1 and that worked once, but I'm unable to repeat that "success" (I may not have restarted the samba daemon the second time, come to think of it). I also noticed that when I was booted into ffp, the /etc/samba/smb.cnf file didn't even contain the [ Volume_1(-1) ] field.

So, early success has led to concern that my hacking has had some unintended side effects.

I would like to get a stable system set up with the additional services mentioned (as well as lighttpd_php serving an LDAP directory admin such as phpldapadmin) and then call it good (for a while anyway).

Lots of stuff - thanks for any / all replies.

Re: Strange problem: Volume_1 becomes Volume_1-1 ?!?

OK, I think I determined where Volume_1-1 came from. Yesterday (when I was a -323 newbie wink) I followed the directions on howto:chroot_debian to turn off oplocks on the Network Access admin web page, and somehow created a share name of Volume_1-1. Funny how software always works as coded smile.

I'll post a follow-up when I get slapd / netatalk and lighttpd working.
