Slow FTP speeds

I received my DNS-323 yesterday, and got everything setup.  Works great out of the box, so far... except when trying to download FTP files.  I am only getting about 10k/s.

My settings:  I am plugged into a Linksys Wireless-G router (WRT54G) - I'm not sure if the speeds on it are 100-only or 100/1000.  I have the NAS set to auto-detect the speed.  When I transfer files to and from my PCs, both the hardwired PC and the wireless laptops, the file-transfer speeds are about what I would expect, and are what I get when transferring files between the PCs.

I am using a Clearwire broadband internet connection.  I did a few speed tests at the various sites, and am showing almost 300-up and 1000-down fairly consistently.

Any advice/suggestions/comments are much appreciated.  I did several searches here in these, and other, forums, but did not find anything relevant, so I'm hoping it's just me and that there is a fix. :^)

Thanks,
Jimmy

Edit: Sorry, forgot to mention that I have the flow control set to unlimited.

Re: Slow FTP speeds

I have a similar problem: when I download from the NAS to a remote PC (not on my local network) using FTP , I get only 2kB/s per file.
I don't know why: each file gets 2kB/s, and nerver more, even if I kill some to release some bandwidth... any clue on why this is behaving like this?

Re: Slow FTP speeds

What kind of internet connection do you have? I was having similar problems with ftp- and http-server. Transfer speeds in local network were fine, but
when trying to access NAS (DNS-313) from internet, the speed was ~20-30 KB/s at maximum.

My ISP provides pppoe connection and after a little survey I found out that maximum MTU supported by pppoe was 1492 and NAS was using MTU of 1500. I changed the MTU of NAS to 1492 and voila! Problems went away! If this is the case, you can change the mtu easily:

1) Telnet to the NAS
2) Type: 'ifconfig -a'  and check the mtu of the interface (mine is egiga0)
3) Change the mtu by typing 'ifconfig egiga0 mtu 1492'
