Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Newb status question - halp!

I read the forum briefly before posting but have not seen this exact behavior.  Please excuse me if I missed anything, and I hope you will point me toward any post I am repeating if I have.

First: I am running a DNS-323 on firmware v1.0.4 with two Western Digital Caviar SE16 750Gb hard disks formatted EXT2 in a RAID-1 configuration.  Both the enclosure and the disks are less than two weeks old.  I currently haven't engaged in any fun_plug activities.

I was using my new DNS-323, purchased about a week ago and upgraded to 1.0.4 five days ago, when I started experiencing some slowness.  I rebooted the device, and when it came back up, the network shares configuration had been lost and the status page indicated that the array was in a degraded condition.  I checked the status lights on the front, and they both showed blue, which made no sense.  So I powered the device back down, and when I powered it back up, the indicator light for the rightmost bay wouldn't come on!  I powered the enclosure back down, gave the drives some time to cool (they were quite warm to the touch, although the internal temperate sensor indicated that it was only ~107 degrees) and reinserted them, reversed (left drive in right bay, right drive in left bay).  Once the device started back up, the array configuration was found again, but the status page indicated that the array was still degraded.  Once again, both lights were blue on the front, although the light for the rightmost drive bay (now containing the drive formerly in the left-hand bay) blinked consistently.  After being left alone for some time, the device's front panel changed; it began blinking blue and blue/orange (both status indicators are lit simultaneously).  Finally, I powered the device back down, reversed the drives, and now the drive that is back in the left bay where it started is showing continuous activity and the status page reports "Sync Time Remaining: 10722.2 minute(s)." This time fluctuates, but mostly goes up.  Argh!
To recap:

1. slowness
2. reboot
3. shares lost, status page indicates array degraded, status lights on front indicate everything is fine
4. reboot
5. status lights on front indicate rightmost drive is not present
6. power down, cool drives, exchange drives left/right -> right/left
7. boot
8. status lights on front indicate both drives present, share definitions recovered, rightmost bay consistently showing activity
9. status page shows array degraded
10. time passes
11. status light on front for right bay begins blinking blue and orange simultaneously
12. power down, swap drives left/right/left -> right/left/right etc
13. continuous activity on left-hand drive
13. status page indicates drives are synchronizing

Any ideas what is going on?  I'm hesitant to continue using the device if one of the drives in the array has failed.  My instinct is to contact D-Link support, but reading this forum tells me they have a fairly mixed track record, and I wanted to see if any of the wise members of this community could help me out.

Update: The array finished syncing and now reports that it's working fine.  Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I still wonder what happened, and if I can trust the disks.
