Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Does anybody use Vista and the DNS-323 as a print server?
Thanks.

Trying to.... Have managed to install the printer, but it just will not print. Just hangs explorer. Even on the test page print.
I'm awaiting for them to release 1.04 firmware in the UK, if was officially released in the US a couple of weeks ago.

Sound like the same problem I am having. I have installed 1.04 and it doesn't seem to have resolved the problem. I think it may be a security issue with Vista, i am still looking into that. I will let you know if i find any resolution and please let me know if you figure it out yourself.
THanks!

Yes, I do. With a Ricoh Aficio CL2000 printer.

I've used my Samsung ML1210 with Vista Business and firmware 1.04
I suggest that you install the printer using the following steps
a) Install the printer connected directly to the Vista system and ensure it is functional
b) Open the printer properties, select the ports tab and create a new local port with the name \\<ip_address_of_DNS-323>\lp
c) Connect the printer to the DNS-323
d) Print.
This has worked for me with both XP Professional & Vista Business

Fordem,
Many thanks for your post.
I never thought of setting the port up as a local port. I have tried the instructions that came with DNS-323, browsing for the printer, setting the port as a print server, and as a TCP/IP port without success.
The printer worked in varying degrees, from not at all to very very slowly to only print a test page from the properties but nothing from a program!
I changed the port to a local port and it all works on all my windows pcs!!!
Thanks again.

The tips from Fordem seems to have worked application wise with no hang ups. My computer is able to send the data to the DNS-323 and then to my printer. But then my printer errors out...just my luck. I've decided to swtich out of vista and us XP again. Thanks for the help everybody.

I have firmware 1.04, Vista Ultimate w/ SP1, and a Samsung ML-1740 laser printer. My print server function seems to be working just fine following instructions from the DNS-323 manual. However, I do experience the problem that the disk spins up unnecessarily after some printing. I know there is a known issue regarding that. In 1.04, you can also clear the print queue from within the Web interface. However, I believe it doesn't completely resolve the spin-up in my case.
I don't plan to use the print server function as of yet. Maybe wait for another future revision. The file sharing thing works reasonably well and I'm happy with the unit.

tried to follow your 4 steps fordem, but after I have entered \\192.168.0.134\lp and press OK, I get a message 'Cannot find the network name'
any ideas?

Assuming that 192.168.0.134 is the correct ip address, you can check the following
a) That the computer and the DNS-323 are in the same workgroup
b) That netBios over tcp is enabled on the computer.

Hi,
I recently purchased a DNS-323 and I am having the same problem as reboot. I am trying to connect a Samsung ML-2010, netbios is enabled, printer is identified in the DNS-323 status page however whenever I try and create a local port I receive "The network name cannot be found message" error.

reboot & kipster - if you're running firmware 1.04, and you have fun_plug loaded, try creating a folder called /.lpd in HD_a2 - apparently firmware 1.03 puts it in HD_a2 and 1.04 puts it in HD_a4 - details are in the thread below

Thanks Fordem,
All is working well. I installed fun_plug, created .lpd dir and the printing worked.
