Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

I'm sure this has been covered, but I couldn't find it...
Both my Laptop and computer are setup as workgroup, but I get a message "Do not have permission to use this resource, contact admin" I'm sure its a windows setting here, but not sure what it is...
I can access the admin screen with no problems.
The Dlink is running an older firmware.
Both computers running XP with Windows Firewall...
With my XBMC, I can access the D-Link with no problems, and find the folders I made before and music & movies I added earlier. Just can't get to it now...
Thanks

Do you have Windows configured to require the password to be entered at boot up - or does it assume that the same user is always at the keyboard?
Whilst I haven't experienced this particular scenario with my DNS-323 - it has been the cause of that exact message with a stand alone Windows 2003 server - and it took a lot head-scratching and time to track it down - as a result. all of my systems now require a password to be entered at boot up, which just might be the reason I haven't seen it with my DNS-323.

Thanks fordem,
I use a password for my adminstrator account on each computer... which is different for both, and I also setup my dlink i believe to have no password or the same one that my main computer was using to try to work around.
I have HD shares on my main computer, that I can't access with my Laptop too or vice versa.. not sure if this is a SMB thing in both my computers, not sure how to check for that either...

The question was not about whether you used a password - but whether or not you had to enter the password at boot up.
Windows can be configured to assume that there will only be one user, and not to ask for a password - and I have found that this can cause the error message you have reported.

yes I understood the question, I have a devious child in my house, and have to password protect my setups..
There is only 1 user, me..... Not the main admin, but user with admin privileges..

To get shares on the computers accessible from one another you'll need to have user accounts with the appropriate name & passwords at both ends, and likewise on the DNS-323.
It is, as the message suggests, some sort of a permissions problem - Windows is deciding that you're not authorised to have access - and I believe the first step into correcting it is to make sure that the usernames and passwords on all the devices match. This does not mean that you cannot have - so to speak - user1 on the laptop and user2 on the desktop, but rather that both machines have both user1 and user2, and that the users have permissions to the relevant shares.

Ok, after some investigation, I see that the firmware was 1.02... bad....
I updated to 1.04 and the dam thing showed up as a Samba in my network places... all is fine... Sorry...
No wonder I was having so many problems...
I have never had a problem network sharing whatsoever... this thing had me stumped...
Appreciate you help fordem...

mmm - it's been quite awhile, but I don't recall that sort of problem when I used 1.02 - who knows, maybe it's just too long ago.
Glad to hear you got it working.

It was weird, I tried like 5 times to change the name of the d-link through the automated setup portion, I did that and when it restarted it would always show like a number and a space and then a little square box.
Or when I would log into the 323 through the web browser, it would have a name of all sorts of weird characters...
Totally messed up, but this new firmware interface is much slicker and works great...
Much better....
Also when I upgraded firmware, I did not lose any Data on the drives... I wasn't worried, as I was still in testing runs before commiting my data to it....
