I coudn't find it anywhere, but is it possible to rename a disk with volume_1 to volume_2?
The reason is that I took out my old drive and put in a new one. This one got formated to Volume_1. Now when I also put in my old drive, it cannot be found, as they are both called volume_1
How can I solve this, so I can have both drives in the DNS?
THanks

The following assumes that your disks are formatted as separate volumes.
If you put the disk you want to be Volume_1 in the right side, power the unit up, it will name that Volume_1, power it down, and install the other disk in the left side and power it back up, it should name that one Volume_2 - the unit does rename them on it's own.
If that is not happening you have a problem of some sort - try each disk one by one in each bay - they should both be recognized in either bay as Volume_1 - doing this should allow you to isolate the problem to a particular disk, bay or the DNS-323 itself.

Try it from an XP system - Vista has a way of obfuscating things - try mapping a drive to \\192.168.0.31\Volume_2 and see what happens.

I can't even connect now through the xp machine.
When I remove the 2nd drive I can connect both though the mapped drive and through ftp (both cases no password is required) When the second drive is inserted, and system restarted, both drives cannot be accessed anymore and through ftp (both are visible) a password is required but not accepted....

Any Ideas how to get the second drive functioning again next to the first?
status now:
Drive a = first drive ever inserted = volume 1(right drive)
Drive b = second drive added afterwords. = volume 2 (left drive)
subsequent sequence of events:
both drives removed Drive b added and formated
drive b now called Volume 1 (right drive)
drive a added, but not visible
both drives accessible through ftp and telnet, but not through windows mapping. Also DNS no loger visible through network
Drive a only on right side, all works
Drive b only on right side, all works
I just cant seam to get them working together......
Who can help?

What happens if you place a single drive in the left side - is it accessible - if not the DNS-323 itself has a problem. If it is accessible, try using a PC to remove the partitions on the new drive, and then install the original drive in the right bay and the new drive in the left bay - at power up the DNS-323 should recognize that there is an unformatted drive and offer to format it.
Be sure to back your data - just to be safe

It is still accessible on the left side, so luckily the dns is still ok.
If all else thus fails, I'll have to remove all from the other drive and reformat, its just I was hoping I didn't have to do that.....
