Tape drive on a DNS-323?

This might sound a little strange - has anyone ever tried hanging a tape drive off the USB port on their DNS-323?

Maybe one of our linux guru's could comment on the potential difficulties - does it require something other than the USB storage kernel module, etc.?

Here's the current train of thought - I was considering using an external hard disk on the USB port to backup a RAID1 array, but that would mean going out to buy an external drive, or at least, an external drive enclosure - but I have, sitting on a shelf next to me, an external DAT tape drive with a SCSI-2 interface, and in a cabinet, there should be a USB to SCSI-2 adapter that I used with the same drive to backup a desktop.

Theoretically at least - since tar is already on the DNS-323 - I could use that to backup to tape.
