FTP Scheduled Downloads lost after restart

I have a DSM-G600 flashed to 1.02.

I bought the device to backup remote dedicated servers I have, to give me piece of mind and local access to files on the servers. So I set up FTP access to download the backups, and created scheduled jobs to download the backups nightly.

I've noticed though that if the DSM is restarted or loses power, the scheduled backups are lost. This seems annoying, why they're not saved along with the rest of the config.

Does this happen for others too, with different firmware versions? Does the DNS-323 lose them too?

For more security, could I instead set up cron jobs to download the backups using SSH with certficate authentication, using the funplug hack, has anyone done this?

Re: FTP Scheduled Downloads lost after restart

I hope you did upgrade to 1.02 us version, not eu.
I have heard that DNS-323 have this bug to, but it might be fixed by now.
You could also make your dedicated servers to upload your files to DSM-G600.
Backups over ssl (ssh) will take more resources and will take longer than using unsecure ftp session.

Search did came up with this guide:

DSM-G600 - NetBSD hdd-boot - 80GB Samsung SP0802N
NSA-220 - Gentoo armv5tel 20110121 hdd-boot - 2x 2TB WD WD20EADS

Re: FTP Scheduled Downloads lost after restart

Yes I installed the 1.02 us version, it's a us unit I bought. It's a real shame as if it saved, the unit would be such a great way of doing backups so simply. And if it turned itself on if it lost power :-)

That link is very useful indeed though, many thanks I will try that one out.
