Vista can't map drives after reboot

I have tried to find solution for this but not succeeded yet. Could you please advice me a bit?

The problem is that when I (re)start Windows, it can't map DNS-323 drives. I'm using username and password for each volume in DNS-323.

I think the problem is this:

Let's say my username is "username" and password is "password". After Windows has started and not connected to network drives, I double click on the drive. The login-box appears and the username there is "/username" and passord field is empty. If I remove "/" mark and write the password the network drive will be connected.

I have used Easy Search to map the drives. DNS-323 name in the admin gui has set to "dlink". I have also added it to hosts file with the name dlink and it's static IP-address. If I open explorer, I can see that it tries to connect with the name instead of IP-address. Also I have changed in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel from 3 to 1 as mentioned in the D-Link web pages.

-DNS-323 firmware 1.04
-Easy Search 3.8.0.0.
-Windows Vista Home Premium
-DNS-323 has static IP 192.168.0.12
-Network router IP is 192.168.0.10 and it DHCP and NAT turned on. DHCP can give addresses between 192.168.0.11 to .199

Re: Vista can't map drives after reboot

You don't need to make the registry change if you run the 1.04 firmware, but it shouldn't hurt.

I don't use the drive mapping feature of Easy Search (I prefer just to type in a UNC path like \\nas1\Volume_1 when needed) but I don't think that Easy Search is responsible for remembering passwords.

I think the problem is that Windows (XP|Vista) Home versions do not remember network passwords.
(See, eg, http://www.tutorials-win.com/Vista/vista-home-301470/ and other links in http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=window … k+password )

One solution is to make the password to the share on the DNS323 the same as the password on your Windows machine (but looking at that first link it doesn't always work?)

I think there have been a few posts on this forum about the subject too, and also see the "BetterSamba" section of the wiki: http://dns323.kood.org/

Re: Vista can't map drives after reboot

Thanks sjmac, that explains everything.

What a piece of shit this OS is. I guess I just write a batch file and use that one. I thought this would be something called basic feature but I guess it's too much to ask.

Re: Vista can't map drives after reboot

I would try the following:

Remove your EasySearch-mapped drive.
Use Windows Vista's own "Map Network Drive" found in Windows Explorer, for example. Check "reconnect at logon" and select "use different username and password". (Exact wording is probably different, but the options should be there.)
