Input/Output Error

Certain folders/directories are returning Input/Output errors when I try to browse them.  I only know they are there because when I use 'find', it returns the error.  However if I just do a regular 'ls', those same folders don't even show up as existing.  They were once valid and working folders, however I think that some of the data may have gone corrupt.  Need some assistance with trying to fix the problem, however can't seem to do any sort of a fsck on the device, and the error checking via the web interface tells me that there are no errors.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Input/Output Error

File system check seems a good idea. There're at least two ways to do this, one is here:
http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t601-File- … hecks.html
For the other, please use the search function.

Re: Input/Output Error

I tried doing searches before making the post and had no luck with whatever I tried.  The link you give is for the DNS-323.  Will that method work on the G600?  I'm hoping that it's something that can be recovered from, but if not then oh well, it's an old drive and the little important info on there is easy enough to copy before it goes dead.

Re: Input/Output Error

Doesn't matter now.  I think the drive is going bad.  Know of any good software that will try to repair a partition?  I tried hooking the drive up to my XP machine using ext2fsd and the file system type is showing up as "RAW".  So now I need a way to tell it that it's ext2 (or ext3?) and allow me to access a few of the files.

Re: Input/Output Error

Update:

I installed the latest ext2fsd and it's now reporting the right file system, but XP is still asking me if I want to format the partition.  The last few times that I tried to boot up with the G600, it wouldn't let me do anything.  I'll just have to fiddle with it a little later, I need some sleeeeeeeeeep.  smile

Re: Input/Output Error

I suggest you to put this drive back to PC and run some recovery software.
Google will come up with couple of windows utilities, but most of them is not freeware.
I have used Stellar Phoenix and R-Studio, they are both OK smile

Re: Input/Output Error

Ty Sala.  R-Studio did the trick for me.  Got the important files recovered and am now picking through the rest of it.

fonz:  e2fsck is what I was looking for originally, so ty for your response.
