Journaling file system on DNS-323?
Hi,
I was wondering if anybody has tried to get a journaling file system working on the DNS-323 after Dlink removed the support of ext3 in the newer firmwares?
For me it is not obvious, why Dlink had such a problems with ext3, since it is a well tested kernel module. Does anybody know why? As most of you know, journaling file systems (jfs) really improves the data integrity after a power failure. Would be a pitty, if such a NAS will work without a jfs.

Is it correct that nobody is interested in a journaling file system for the DNS-323 to recover more quickly from a power failure? I thought this topic would be of greater interest... ext3 or xfs would have been really nice.

I am interested in a journaling file system for the DNS-323 and I'm sure
there are may others here that would greatly appreciate that enhancement.
D-Link never disclosed why EXT3 was removed, and most likely never will.
If you have any ideas or development approaches for this, please discuss them
here. I suspect the lack of response has more to do with users experience level
and abilities to contribute to a journaled file system development, rather than
lack of interest.

Well, first I would like to know, WHY Dlink stopped to implement ext3 in their firmware. What were the difficulties?
The second question would be, if someone compiled the sources from Dlink an generated a firmware and if an implementation of ext3 would be feasible?

It appears that the ext3 implementation had some sort of a problem that resulted in data loss/corruption - you can download the 1.02 firmware from DLink and take a look at it if you like - I may have the old GPL source, but I'm not certain.

That describes me. I am interested.
On a related note I'm also interested in a FS with extended ACL support to better map Windows ACL's through samba.
