Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

1. As written in another post here, one of my two drives failed (drive LED turned blue + orange = "pink") some days ago, degrading my RAID1 array.
2. I pulled the faulty drive out and tried to mount it under Windows Vista. To do this I had to download a low level format tool from my HDD manufacturer (Samsung, the software is called ESTOOL).
3. The drive appeared OK in ESTOOL (?) but I perfomed the format anyway.
4. Re-inserted the formatted drive in the DNS. It halted during startup with the power LED just blinking.
5. Waited for my newly ordered replacement drive to arrive.
6. I shut down DNS and inserted new HDD (carefully noted the s/n of the new device)
7. Opened the web interface and was prompted "Click Next to begin formatting the replacement drive. Re-synch will take place after the restart." and a table showing drive vendor, model, s/n and size. S/n matched my notes.
8. Clicked next and watched a progress bar slowly fill up
9. The drive LED of the "old" and healthy drive turns blue + orange = "pink"!!!
10. Progress stuck after 15 mins at 94%. DNS is quiet, and there is no more disk activity.
11. I attempt to access the web interface without response.
12. Try to telnet in - no response.
13. DNS responds on ping, thats all.
14. I press and hold the physical power button, but nothing happens (should shut down)
15. (short of good ideas) I pull the power cord...
16 I restarted the DNS. Startup appears normal, the DNS-323 seems happy as ever.
17. Drive access OK, web interface OK, telnet OK. I can see resync it running to restore the disk array.
I guess everything ended fine. But I must say the device behaved a bit strange throughout the adventure.
