SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) Drives

Hi,

I assume that SAS drives don't work in the DNS-323 and there is no way to get them to work even though they are the same connections?

If I tried them would it damage the unit? I have a couple that I intend to sell, but need to check they are blank first, but have no way to do so!

Any suggestions/info welcome.

Thanks

Re: SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) Drives

No you cannot use SAS drives with a SATA controller - and SAS & SATA drives do not use the same connector - look a little more closely - you can plug a SATA drive into a SAS connector, but not the other way around.

Look at the area between the data connector and the power connector on a SATA drive - there is a space - now look at the same spot on a SAS drive - there is no space, and this is not just a key, look closely at the back side and you will find a second, smaller set of data connectors - SAS drives have dual data ports, while SATA drives do not.
