Hi
I have a DNS-323 box. have been having intermittent problems with accessing the shares. Most of the time, I was not able to connect via the hostname. I configured in the WEB-GUI as "dlink-shared" , with static address 192.168.0.10
I am able to ping 192.168.0.10 successfully all the time. however I was unable to ping "dlink-shared". however I when I tried nbtstat -a dlink-shred, I get a successful name resolution.
I have 2 windows XP machine and 1 Vista Home basic and 1 Vista Business pro.
On the 2 windows XP, I can sometimes connect via hostname. On the vista machines, i have never succeded in connecting using hosthame. however, I can always connect using ip address.
how is the hostname on the DNS-323 box broadcast? any idea?
Any idea?

add this into your host file
192.168.0.10 dlink-shared

To answer your question - the hostname on the DNS-323 is broadcast using NetBEUI - although that would be better phrased as name resolution is handled through NetBEUI.
Do you have a workgroup configured? Is the DNS-323 in the same workgroup? Do you have NBT (NetBios over TCP/IP) enabled.
