Re: NEW FIRMWARE 1.02b available for download!

Downloaded here without a problem. I can't upgrade now, unfortunately sad No backup media at the moment... But there is no note on "beta" version, so I suppose this is official "full" build. Unless this little "b" in 1.02b means beta wink

If you have any experience with this build/version, let us know! smile

Not surprised, but no sign of this version on any of European D-Link sites... I don't care anymore.

Re: NEW FIRMWARE 1.02b available for download!

Downloading now.  Now where to back up all my data to reformat this sucker after update....

Hmm the file name is NAS202A_DLINKEu_DNS323.1.02b114(1.02.0110.2007)

I wonder if that Eu means Europe?  I downloaded this from the US support site, should I give it a try?

Re: NEW FIRMWARE 1.02b available for download!

Two items to note with the new firmware.

1. They did not change the reported firmware to 1.02b, it will still show as 1.02 so you need to check that the date is 1/10/2007.
2. On first run, raid 1 appears to be functioning as it should.

I followed my same testing as before when it failed.  I have not re-formatted my drives.  I upgraded the firmware, pulled a drive, shut the unit down.  cleaned the drive on another computer and re-inserted.  Powered up the DNS, formatted the replacement drive, rebooted and it is now synching data.  ETA 63 minutes for my 320gb HDs.  Will report back if all seems well.

So far I'm excited!!

What if you don't clean the HDD from another PC?  Can you just make it different by deleteing some files -- will it know enough to re-sync?

Re: NEW FIRMWARE 1.02b available for download!

Not sure on that one.  I can try it.  I don't think it would know what to do.  It would still see the partitions it sets up and probably assume that the array is clean.  I noticed after I pulled the one drive the status still showed a complete array.  All I did to clean the HD was to remove the partitions.

The resync is still going on.  Looks like the 63 min estimate was a little off, more like 90 minutes.  But that is still very acceptable if my data is safe.  I am still able to access the files so I at least know it's not erasing everything.    I'll mess around with some differnet iterations of failures/restoring before I say I'm satisfied.

Next will be to fun_plug this thing and start checking the logs via telnet.  Interesting that this firmware says remove ext3, I thought they did that last time.  Maybe they cleaned up the errors in the dmesg that we were seeing.

Re: NEW FIRMWARE 1.02b available for download!

I am currently runnig the 1.02b firmware... re-formated (what a PITA), back to RAID1 Array. I found out that in this update (noted in other thread also) that the Anonymous FTP user getting read access to ROOT has been corrected.

Re: NEW FIRMWARE 1.02b available for download!

I upgraded and did not reformat.  I noted all my settings were still intact after the re-flash.  I decided to nuke the settings to the default since every time I was going to the iTunes web page it crashed the web interface.  My Raid 1 array is still there.

I noted that after I did a reset there was a lot of disk activity.  I don't have fun_plug enabled, but I think it ran e2fsck by it self! That would be nice!

How did the resync workout; did it go through without any issues and did everything look okey?

Re: NEW FIRMWARE 1.02b available for download!

I received my box 2 days ago and got 2 new disks (WD Caviar RE 320 gigs) yesterday. Started out with standard firmware (1.01) and did my settings. After map drive problems i found this forum (great stuff by the way).

Did upgrade it to newest firmware 1.02b, (required reformatting - so I did) and my settings were kept.

Had to upgrade browser to IE7 in order to make the formatting progress start.

I'm a Danish citizen so my warranty is probably non existent anymore. Couldn't care less in this issue. Wake up D-Link EU.

Re: NEW FIRMWARE 1.02b available for download!

I find that strange - I started with 1.01, went to 1.02 and 1.02b, had no need to reformat (I was using EXT2 from the getgo) and I'm still using IE6.

Everything worked out great it seems.  All my data is there so far as I can tell.  No issues accessing what I have.

I have installed the 1.02b but still anonomys people can browse my drive using explorer. Seems like thay can only browse but still I don't want them in there. Is there a setting to prevent this?

Re: NEW FIRMWARE 1.02b available for download!

I have two DNS-323.  One was using ext2 RAID 1 and the other was using ext3 RAID 1.  The one with ext3 during the upgrade to 1.02b, I was asked to format the drives, and it changed to ext2 after formatting.  The one with ext2 during the upgrade to 1.02b, it didn't ask me to format!.  All of my settings remained the same.  I think D-Link wants to remove the filesystem ext3.  The 1.02b is able to detect what filesystem you are using.  Whoever uses ext3 will be asked to reformat the drives in order to change to ext2.  Obviousely this is my guess.

Re: NEW FIRMWARE 1.02b available for download!

lost most control of my fingers so pleaqe bear with me, it hurts like hell 2 type.

Just still 2 damn slow!! Speed is in the 100mbps range not in range of the 1000mps card supposedly in the unit.
i can copy a 6 gig file in less then 3 mins to my other machines. the same file takes 8 mnutes xfering 2 the DNS-323.
Also i moved my itunes dir to one of my drives and so far its taken 3+ hours just 2 read the file names into itunes. Still not finished yet! Now my system (i realize its a faster cpu in all my machines from 1 ghz to 3.6 ghz  duo) takes about 20 mins to read the itunes files  about 95 gigs   about 15000 file names)..but hey it works..just wish it was faster all my other files are my os backups with Acronis True image  so they are from 4 - 6 gigs. thats a long time 2 move the files 2 or from the d-link...
But! i wouldnt give the dns-323 up. i actually got an rma from newegg.com 2 send it back but once i saw 1.02b installed and it did solve some of the major pronlems, i kept the sucker.. can't wait 4 the next firmware update...

BTW, Easy search what does it search 4. and mapping the drives i have 2 do after every reboot so i finally just stopped mapping em. Anyne have any luck in mapping the drives and after reboot they are still mapped?

No problem mapping drives, but not using EasySearch, but manual windows mapping (Map network drive) with "reconnect on next logon" (sorry, I have Czech XP, don't know the english phrase exactly). The only odd thing is that sometimes (rarely) the unit doesn't announce it's name correctly, so I map it directly by IP address (fixed IP reserved for DNS323 in my DHCP server).
