hey im looking for some assistance here
I have a simple home network setup, i have 3 PC's and 2 laptops.
One of the laptops (running vista sp1) can't connect to the samaba server on the DNS323. I get an error saying there is a security issue, i cant even navigate to the ip address \\192.168.1.3 is it happens.
All other PC connect with out issue.
the interesting thing is that I can ping the server I can connect to the webserver and the FTP server, but not the samba server.
Can anyone assist me in how to work out what is the issue and how to fix it.
the DNS server is running version 1.05, however i had the same issue in 1.03.
cheers
Chris

Are the other systems also running Vista ?
There is a strong probability that the problem is on the laptop.

Have you set the network permissions to LM in Vista? It is by default set to NTLMv2, which is not compatible with the DNS running Samba 2. It was supposed to be fixed in F/W 1.04 using Samba 3, but I have heard of a few cases still (including 1 of my 3 Vista machine). It could also be the windows firewall not allowing connection to the share.

thanks for the replies.
other pcs on the network include vista, vista sp2, and server.
i agree that the prob is on the laptop though i'm still at a loss of what it is.
The laptop was set to NTLMv2, i have change it to LM and NNTLM.
when i tried to connect the first time it asked for credentials, i entered them as i would do to logon to the NAS. After that i still get error
'\\192.168.1.2 is not accessible, you might not have permissions....
The server is not started.'
this works from everything else on my network (even from my N95 go figure).

When mapping from Vista, try right clicking on my computer and mapping from there. Also, before clicking finish, try clicking on login as another user, and enter user info there. Make sure you use a valid user and not admin.

I have tried mapping using the menus, as well as navigating directly use network path.
It seems as though it looks at this laptop and simply refuses to communicate vai samba.
Is there any way to see a log for this?
