Problem of accents since 1.05 upgrade

Hello,
Since I upgraded from 1.03 to 1.05 firmware, every accents (éèà) are replaced by squares in files names and directories.
Using network shortcut (\\MyIP\MyVolume) or EasySearch (4.2) drive, the problem is the same.
If I try to connect using FTP, the problem is the same and accents are replaced by "...".

Fortunately, when I connect using Telnet, and I execute a "ls" command on my volumes, the accents are visible.

I found some people who faced the same problem but I can't find any clear solution.
I hope that you will be able to help me.

Thanks,
David

Re: Problem of accents since 1.05 upgrade

1.03 doesn't use utf8. 1.04 and above uses utf8 encoding. Since you upgraded, even at 1.05 firmware, it is still using the old encoding method. You need to reformat your drives in order for it to support utf8 encoding. If you uses a lot of other languages especially asian languages, better to reformat or else you will get lots of such squares characters.

Re: Problem of accents since 1.05 upgrade

I can't reformat the drives because there is too many data and I have not enough space on my computer to make a backup.
If I rename my files and directories, what encoding is used ? If utf8 is used, maybe I can create a program to rename every files ?
I tried to create a new directory with accents and when I used "ls" command with telnet connection, the accents were written not correctly. Is it normal ?

Thanks you.

As far as the word on other threads in this forum, yes, you will need to reformat.  Something about the encoding isn't changed until then.  I do not know why.

Re: Problem of accents since 1.05 upgrade

sorry, not possible. The only way to fix it is reformatting the drives. You will need to find ways to backup your stuffs over. Mine has been pending also because of not having enough space to backup my stuffs. Then I upgraded from 320GB to 500GB, this gave me a change to format the drives and play around with fun_plug without fearing of losing data.

I have already two drivers of 500GB ;-)
I'll try to find any other solution.

Re: Problem of accents since 1.05 upgrade

How are your drives set-up?  RAID, JBOD, Standard?

Re: Problem of accents since 1.05 upgrade

If you reflashed to 1.03, then you are back.  As far as changes made in 1.05 that are still there on the hard drives, I cannot help.  If you want to do 1.05 and be able to reformat so the unicode works, I may be able to help with that.  There is a catch, though.

First, it will require you to fun_plug the unit to get telnet access.  Second, you will break the array.  Once this is done, you will have 2 individual hard drives each with all your data on them.  This is your temporary backup.  Once that is done, you will format one of the drives and copy your data on to the freshly formatted one.  After that, you will format the second one and manually copy the data back to the second drive and maintain 2 drives until you can find enough room to back it all up on a computer or USB drive.  Then you set RAID 1 back up.

Up to this point, there is very little risk of losing your data.  A more risky venture is to rebuild the array with the data in place.  It can be done, but there is a greater chance of losing the data if it is done wrong.

Now, I have done all the above with data on the drives and have not lost any.  This does not mean that you can't lose data -- it is always possible, but then again, you could knock the whole unit onto the floor and lose it, too.  Only you can determine how much risk you can accept.

Instructions will be posted in this thread later when I get home from work: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/t1150-Tuto … night.html
I will be writing the instructions later today in this thread, but it is at your risk.  I always suggest a backup.

Re: Problem of accents since 1.05 upgrade

I restored from 1.03 firmware and changed charset to cp850 and all is ok.
Thanks you so much for your help,
David
