How hot does your DNS-323 run
at room temp 22C, the status page shows
System Temperature 109 F /43 C
Is that bit tooo toasty ?

Not at all - I have an ambient that varies from around 28~34 and mine runs at 48~49 idle and into the mid 50's when active, I think I've seen it as high as 58. It runs pretty much 24/7, and can be continuously active for periods appoaching 12 hours or so, and in the 18 months or thereabouts I've had it, I've had very few problems that weren't of my own making

mine are currently running 116 F (Hardware A1) on one and 107 F (Hardware B1) on the other.

Mine typically runs around 100 degrees off the usb drive with the fan completely off. 108 is when the fan kicks in and it may get as hot as 109 before getting cooled by the fan back to 107 during backups, when both drives are active.

my room temperature is around 28-31c. The unit when idle with drives inactive is 44c. When it's active and doing heavy stuffs, it goes up to 51c. If I open the front cover, it actually increase to 52c.

Room temperature ~78-80*F, unit idles at 115*F and under load up to 125*F. That's with fan being turned off (using a script) when temperature is below 120*F

right now its 103*F 39*C, disks are turned off, its pretty hot in my room too..
i've seen the temperature rise to 48*C but never more.
will see how it goes in the summer

My room is usually right around 80 and my 323 is currently on a shelf at eye level. When it is busy (and it has been very busy the last week) it runs consistantly 111 with the front cover on but slightly raised for more airflow, or 114 with the front cover off completly. The box itself is cooler to the touch with the front cover off and the disks get more airflow. The temperature sensor is on the mainboard in the bottom of the unit and the front cover deflects air into the bottom of the unit when it is in place. I have removed the slight restriction in back of the case fan.

Mine is usually about 43 C and doesn't get much above 45 C during high usage. The ambient temperature of my room doesn't get much above 20 C

Running two Segate Barracudas 500GB each I never saw it above 43c with disks spinning. Now I'm running it with a Western Digital Green Power 1TB and its at 44c with the disk spinning.
Funny, because actually, the "Green Power" means that the disk doesn't become so hot. On the other side, I don't know which influence an empty drive bay on the ventilation has. Soon I'll insert a 2nd drive; I'm curious whether the temperature will decrease then...

My room is 75F/24C the DNS-323 is 120F/49C with cover on, and with no mods except for fun_plug and Twonky for PS3. Hardware is OEM.
After discovering the vibration noise coming from Seagate drives and reading the forum, I took the front cover off to quiet it, to see what would happen.
With the cover off for 20 minutes, the DNS-323 is 111F/44C, but now the noise from the air flow is worse!
I have decided to use a laptop cooler which has 1 fan blowing up into the front intake port, and the other fan cooling my wireless router.
After a day of this setup, my idle temp now is 96F/36C.

With 2x 1 TB Samsung HD103UI (their EcoGreen model), my DNS-323 idles at 86F/30C.
