One one drive light active

I turned my drive off the other day.  When I turned it back on, only one drive light is active.

What does this mean?

Re: One one drive light active

It could be a defective LED or a defective drive - it could even mean that someone removed a drive whilst you weren't paying attention.

Did you try to access your data and was it available or not?
How many drives did you have in the unit and in what configuration were they?
Did you have email alerts configured and did you receive any emails from the unit?
What does the status page show and how does that compare to what you expect it to show?

Re: One one drive light active

Hi. I got my DNS a couple of weeks ago with to 500Gb in it. I formatted them to Raid1, installed unplug and firmware 1.05. After a week I got the same problem, only one drive light. Eventaully I pressed the left drive in a bit and it lit up again, so assuming it was loose connection. It is only an assumption based on the above. In any case, once it came back online I was asked to select the drive config again. Not wanting to lose all the data I chose "skip". Since then I have had the "your drives are incorrectly installed" message twice and had to sit through an automatic resyncing by the unit before I could access the config page. Its's doing one right now in fact. Pain in the ass. I don't know the latest error has come about, first time it resynched and worked fine after that. I installed some more apps but nothing that would throw it out of synch. Could be the loose connector again I suppose.

Re: One one drive light active

Data is available and accessible.  No one could have removed the drive.  I'm sure it's still in there.

2 750 Gig drives in it.  Raid 1.

No email alerts.

Status page shows nothing out of the ordinary.

I might try turning it off and on again.

Re: One one drive light active

Now we're getting somewhere Sheff - details are always good.

It sounds like you have a defective LED - since you are running RAID1 and the status page shows "nothing out of the ordinary" such as a degraded message.

By the way - with RAID1 - if I did sneak in and snitch a drive, your data would still be available, that's how RAID1 works - it doesn't drop dead because a drive fails (or vanishes)
