Setting Time on a DNS323

I did a search through the archieves to see if the following question had already been asked and answered. Since I had no luck in finding an answer please allow me to ask;

When the WEB interface is used to set time on a DNS323, do the settings utilized set up some sort of job that then performs automated updates on a regular basis? From what I've read I beleive the answer is no. From what I understand time is set once when you press the appropriate button on the WEB interface but then is never set again (Unless of course you load the interface and press the appropriate button).

If my observations are correct, how does one go about adding an automated job that would poll a know good time source on a regular basis; once every 24 hours.

Re: Setting Time on a DNS323

Hey Bob,

What firmware version are you using??  Look under Tools - Firmware to find out what version you have.  Because using 1.03-1.05 allows you to set up your DNS to get the time from a time server using NTP (Network Time Protocol).

Once you have upgraded set it (Under Tools - Time) to use the server ca.pool.ntp.org and it will keep itself insync.

NAS firmware is version 1.05. I've set up an NTP service and can set time using the "Set Time" button thus I know the time source is good. I take it from your comment that a DNS323 that's running firmware 1.03 to 1.05 will sync its time every so often thus there's no need to run a separate job to do so?

Re: Setting Time on a DNS323

Yup! Your DNS-323 will periodically check the offset (difference) in time between your time and that of the NTP server and adjust if necessary.
