Disk Activity Measurement ?

Hey Everyone,

I have 1.05 F/W and fonz's fun_plug 0.5. Great stuff.

Anyway, I wondered if anyone had any tools (CLI/web-based interface) for monitoring disk activity. I'm thinking something along the lines of iostat/collectl on *nix.

Thanks,

Adz smile

Re: Disk Activity Measurement ?

As a point of clarification, collectl only runs on linux.  The key things to remember about disk monitoring are:
- you shouldn't necessarily just look at disk stats by themselves as it can be useful to seeing what else is going on in other parts of the system such as cpu loads, memory pressure and maybe even the network.  For example if you accidentally write to an nfs share, how else would you even know?
- if you really want to see what's going on it can be very useful to capture the output in a file and plot it against the other system components.  this is something collectl can do natively - that is record the data in plottable form
