Re: RAID with two hardisk with same storage size but diferrence brand?

Yes, but keep in mind they may not actually be the same size.  500 GB from 1 manufacturer may not be exactly the same from another.

DNS-323     F/W: 1.04b84  H/W: A1  ffp: 0.5  Drives: 2X 400 GB Seagate SATA-300
DNS-323     F/W: 1.05b28  H/W: B1  ffp: 0.5  Drives: 2X 1 TB  WD SATA-300
DSM-G600   F/W: 1.02       H/W: B                Drive:  500 GB WD ATA

Just so you know - a 500GB drive may not be the same size as a second 500GB drive of the same make & model - I came across this whilst replacing a failed drive in a RAID array on an IBM NetFinity many years ago.

You can use two drives from any manufacturer and any capacity of your choice, the DNS-323 will create the RAID array based on the size of the smaller drive.

I see. Actually i am using one single hardisk (320 GB samsung brand), and i would like to create RAID with (320 GB Western Digital brand) hardisk.

Did you mean the RAID can be done although using two difference size of hardisk?

Yes, that is exactly what he meant

Re: RAID with two hardisk with same storage size but diferrence brand?

There is no requirement for identical make model & capacity disks when creating a RAID array.

If you are creating a RAID array, you will be limited by the capacity of the smallest drive - in the case of the DNS-323, you will be prompted to enter the desired capacity of the array and any excess capacity will be setup as a JBOD volume.

If you are replacing a failed disk you MUST use a disk of equal or larger capacity.
