Shares not visible on Vista SP1?

My DNS-323 file shares suddenly could no longer be accessed from Windows Vista after I installed SP1.

I've installed ffp so that I could do some troubleshooting. I can access the files via FTP and now SFTP.

Doing "smbclient -L localhost" everything looks normal. Also "smb restart" didn't fix it.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks

Have you check the LAN Manager Authentication level security policy? It should be set to Send LM & NTLM.

Thanks I have Google'd the stuff you suggest above and I understand I need to run "secpol.msc" to get at these settings... unfortunately secpol.msc is nowhere to be found on my Vista Home Premium system... Any ideas how to actually set this stuff?

Re: Shares not visible on Vista SP1?

I will dig it up.  secpol is for business and ultimate.  I set it on my Dad's Vista home machine a while ago.  I will see him this weekend and will get back on how to do it.

Re: Shares not visible on Vista SP1?

Edit the registry and change the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LMCompatibilityLevel from 3 to 1.

However, in my case neither Vista Pre-SP1 nor SP1 required me to do so.

Me neither. Access to the NAS worked out of the box with Vista since day one. I reckon the issue lies somewhere else.

One of my vista laptops worked without problem, and the other didn't (but it was wierd permission and access denied errors) and I had to change the NTLM settings as above....? Both vista business.

Re: Shares not visible on Vista SP1?

The NTLM setting is dependent upon the F/W version.  F/W 1.04 and newer does not require changes to Vista, but the older ones do.
